Jailed GTA 6 Hacker Reportedly Smuggled a Phone and Discussed Possible Source Code Leak

New reports suggest that the hacker responsible for the massive Rockstar Games breach in 2022 may have continued communicating online while being held in detention.

According to information shared within hacking communities, the individual reportedly managed to smuggle a mobile phone into a secure facility and used it to send messages discussing the earlier Rockstar data breach and the status of Grand Theft Auto VI development materials.

The hacker, linked to the Lapsus$ group, was responsible for one of the largest video game leaks ever recorded. In September 2022, dozens of early GTA 6 development clips appeared online, revealing unfinished gameplay systems, debug tools, and early versions of Vice City environments.

Those internal videos quickly spread across the internet before Rockstar Games issued copyright takedowns and confirmed that its network had been accessed by an unauthorized third party.

In the newly surfaced conversations, the hacker reportedly suggested that elements of GTA 6's source code could still exist outside Rockstar's internal systems. However, no evidence has been publicly verified to confirm that the full source code has leaked or is being distributed.

Security experts say that even if fragments of development files were obtained during the breach, it would be extremely difficult for outsiders to compile or use them without Rockstar's internal development infrastructure.

Rockstar Games has not issued any new public statements regarding the claims. The company previously confirmed that the 2022 breach would not impact the long-term development of Grand Theft Auto VI.

GTA 6 remains one of the most anticipated video games ever created, and fans around the world continue to wait for the next official update, trailer, or gameplay reveal from Rockstar Games.
