It's Official — Modern Warfare 4 Is Real
Activision and Infinity Ward have officially pulled the curtain back on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The game launches October 23, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC via Steam and Battle.net, and — for the first time in 13 years — Nintendo Switch 2. This is the 23rd installment in the Call of Duty series and the direct follow-up to Modern Warfare 3. Pre-orders are open right now across all platforms.
The Story — War on the Korean Peninsula
Modern Warfare 4 is set against a full-scale North Korean invasion of South Korea that threatens to destabilize the entire world. You play as Private Park, a young South Korean soldier thrown into live combat for the first time as his patrol descends into chaos. Meanwhile, the legendary Captain Price returns — running an off-book personal war from the shadows while being hunted. When Price's mission collides with the forces behind the invasion, the war spirals completely out of control. Infinity Ward is calling this their darkest and most emotional Call of Duty story ever.
What's in the Game
Modern Warfare 4 has three main modes. The campaign follows Private Park and Captain Price across a war-torn Korean Peninsula. Multiplayer returns with two Prestige paths — regular and classic — giving longtime fans the old-school progression system back. And DMZ, the extraction shooter mode from Modern Warfare 2, also makes a return. Notably, this is the first Call of Duty since Modern Warfare 3 that will NOT be on Xbox Game Pass at launch, which is a big deal for players who rely on the subscription.
The GTA 6 Connection — Two Giants Clash This Holiday
Here is the most interesting angle nobody is talking about. Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23, 2026. GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026. That is exactly 27 days apart. This holiday season is going to be absolutely insane for gamers — two of the biggest franchises in gaming history dropping within the same month. The question for Indian gamers is simple: which one do you buy first? Both are current-gen only, both are massive, and both are going to demand your full attention.
What This Means for Indian Gamers
Indian Call of Duty fans have been waiting for a proper Modern Warfare game since 2023. MW4 being current-gen only means it will look and run better than anything the franchise has delivered before. Pre-orders are live on PlayStation Store and Xbox Store right now. Pricing for India has not been officially confirmed yet but expect the standard ₹4,999 to ₹5,999 range based on previous CoD launches in India. The Nintendo Switch 2 version is particularly exciting for Indian gamers who picked up the handheld — more details on Switch 2 pricing are coming later this summer.
My Take
October 23 to November 19 is going to break every gaming record in history. Two of the most anticipated games ever made dropping back to back is something nobody expected. My honest advice — start saving now. Between Modern Warfare 4 and GTA 6, your wallet is not going to survive this holiday season. And honestly? That is a great problem to have.
