Rockstar Games recently removed internal Grand Theft Auto VI identifiers from Sony's PlayStation Store database after fans discovered them and began using them to display the unreleased game on their gaming profiles.
The discovery first appeared when users analyzing PlayStation backend data noticed two title identifiers connected to GTA 6. These internal codes are typically used by Sony to manage games within the PlayStation Store system before they officially launch.
Shortly after the identifiers were spotted, some players found a way to manipulate the codes so that Grand Theft Auto VI appeared inside the "Recently Played" section of their PlayStation Network and Xbox profiles. This quickly spread across social media as users posted screenshots showing the unreleased game on their activity pages.
However, the exploit did not allow anyone to actually access or play GTA 6. It only displayed the game as if it had been launched.
Once the situation gained attention online, Rockstar Games acted quickly. Reports indicate that the company removed the GTA 6 identifiers from Sony's database and reset profiles that had used the workaround to display the title.
Some accounts that attempted to exploit the system may have also faced restrictions or bans, according to community reports.
During the short period when the identifiers were visible, fans also noticed references linking the IDs to PlayStation 4. This sparked speculation that a PS4 version of GTA 6 may have existed earlier in development before Rockstar shifted focus to current-generation hardware.
At the moment, Grand Theft Auto VI has only been officially confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Although the listing appeared briefly in backend systems, it does suggest that Rockstar and Sony are preparing store infrastructure ahead of the game's eventual launch. Internal database entries are commonly created months or even years before a title becomes available for pre-orders.
With GTA 6 expected to be one of the biggest entertainment releases in history, small discoveries like these continue to fuel excitement across the gaming community while fans wait for Rockstar's next official announcement.
